Trash Dumpster Retort
Skip Williams
Lexington, VA

Charcoal retort made from a trash dumpster laid on its side, and set on legs to lift it two feet off the ground. Dumpster is surrounded by thin sheet metal -- a 2-inch space between where flames traverse. Large fire underneath until wood releases flammable gases, which spew from door bottom and drawn into firebox. Will keep burning until charcoal is complete. Maybe 1/2 ton per firing.
Unloading from the roll-back. This photo gives you a better idea of the size and construction methods
